At Getwell Road, we support several spiritual journeys that we believe benefit the believer, the church and the Christian community. While each of these journeys is unique in its structure they all have some similarities. They are usually 3 or 4 day events held in remote locations throughout north Mississippi. They are all well-planned, structured events that are attended by invitation primarily to prepare staff for the attendees. We have members who are involved with all of the spiritual journeys that are linked. If you have an interest in attending or you have attended in the past and would like further information please contact Chris Johnston or Katherine Garrone through the church office.
What Is Cursillo and Emmaus?
They are highly structured weekends designed to strengthen and renew the faith of Christian people, and through them, their families, congregations and the world in which they live. The weekends are a combined effort of laity and clergy toward the renewal of the church.
What Happens At the Retreats?
They are both a 72-hour experience. The weekends begin on Thursday evening and end
Sunday evening. You will spend three busy, but very enjoyable days, at a retreat
center. You will live and study together in singing, prayer, worship, and discussion. You will experience God's grace personally through the prayers and acts of service of a living supportcommunity.
What Happens After the Retreats?
Those who attend a Cursillo are encouraged
to do two things:
1. Expand their own spiritual lives through study and congregational participation.
2. Become more active disciples of Christ in the world through their church.
Who Should Go To Cursillo or Emmaus?
They are designed for the development of Christian leaders who:
• Wish to strengthen their spiritual lives;
• May have unanswered questions about prayer, study, and sharing their faith;
• Understand that being a Christian involves responsibility.
If you have an interest in attending one of these retreats or you have attended in the past and would like further information, please contact Chris Johnston or Katherine Garrone through the church office.
