God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. - Psalm 46:1-2 (NIV)

WAYS TO HELP

The United Methodist Committee on Relief is shipping health kits to provide basic necessities to people who have lost everything. The following kit is used in places where people do not have ready access to many essential supplies for everyday life. Please follow the directions exactly. Include all items; do not add items that are not on the lists. Extra gifts, though given with the best of intentions, render a kit unusable and must be removed. Note: All items sent must be new!

•1 hand towel (15” x 25” up to 17” x 27”)
•1 washcloth
•1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
•1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
•1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
•1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, No child-size brushes)
•1 large tube of toothpaste (4.5 oz or larger, expiration date must be 6 months or longer in advance of the date of shipment to UMCOR Sager Brown, No child-size brushes)
•6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
Place these items inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag.

Value: $12 per kit

In a separate envelope, please send a check for at least $1.00 to cover the cost of processing and shipping the kits. Make it payable to GRUMC; we will write one check for processing/shipping for all kits donated through our church.

Important: Please do not include any religious, political or patriotic notes or emblems in any kit.

Thank you for your donations. You are helping to make a difference in people’s lives.

WATER FOR LIFE

For over 15 years, LIFE Ministry (www.lifetoday.org) has been actively working in Haiti under the direction of David and Judy Heady. Their mission partners survived the quake unscathed, but the country is in ruins.

The first assessments come with a request for help in restoring water wells damaged by the earthquake, since clean water is a key to health, daily life and recovery.

Your can donate money to this ministry through Getwell Road UMC. Mark your donations "Water For Life" We will make sure your donation gets to them.

PRAY
Continue to lift up the victims of this earthquake and their families in prayer.
United Methodists everywhere are invited to share a prayer for those affected by the Haiti earthquake.  Visit the Facebook group for 10thousanddoors.org (http://bit.ly/6oJb5U) to lift up your praise or concern on the wall.

HEALTH KITS
We are joining other local UM churches in crafting "Health Kits" to send into Haiti as soon as teams are allowed in. The ingredients for a kit is below; a collection box will be in our lobby to turn them in. If you cannot or prefer not to assemble the kits, you can donate money to help us buy the items to assemble them. Each kit is valued at $12. You can turn it in with your offering, OR you can place check or cash into the RED BOX at the INFO CENTER MARKED ACCORDINGLY. Checks should be made payable to "GRUMC" and labeled "Haiti Relief."

In these times of trouble we cling to our God who gives us both safety and strength for the days ahead. We come together to create safe spaces for those who mourn deep losses, encourage one another and gather strength for a new day.
